Where and when does Salle Hunt-Roeder meet?

The Club meets in the QEH Gym on Tuesdays and Fridays, 20.00 - 22.00.

Where is QEH and how do I find the gym?

QEH is located on Jacob’s Wells Road – Click on the location button to find a map of how to find us. The gym is tucked away through the gate to the right of the school and down the many steps all the way to the sports hall.

What should I wear?

No specialist equipment is necessary, you just need a t-shirt (maybe another to change into afterwards), tracksuit bottoms and some sensible trainers. The Club will lend you all the equipment you need. It is also advisable to bring something to drink as fencing can be thirsty work!

How much does it cost?

Your first session is free. Further sessions are £5.00 per night for non-members, or alternatively you can join the club for £16 a month for students, OAPs and juniors or £20 a month for adults. This includes all your tuition and kit hire.

I want to buy some kit – what should I get?

We would not recommend that you buy anything immediately as the Club will lend you everything you will need for both training and competition. If you must buy something, we would suggest asking one of the senior members for their advice first about equipment purchases. Common first purchases are gloves and masks.

How fit do I need to be?

Whilst a good level of fitness is desirable generally, you do not need to be extremely fit to enjoy fencing. Participation and training at the Club will help you develop the fitness necessary. As you progress, you will see your aerobic endurance increasing, better coordination, enhanced flexibility and quicker reactions.

Are there any age limits on fencing?

Children gain the most from fencing from the age of 10 upwards. We have no upper age limit – currently our oldest fencer (name withheld to spare blushes) is in his mid-70s.

I love fencing! Can I get more lessons?

All of our coaches are available for additional individual lessons from 19.00 on Club nights. This needs to be arranged in advance,
